My X8 hangs after Android update

Hi since adding ndroid 2.1 through the official support site my X8 hangs about half the time when making calls. Specificaly the display goes out and you cannot end the call. The call does go on but to hang up you need to remove the battery. WiFi is runnig nOK and its OK on texts, only phone calls.

Any ideas?

back up everything and run the update again with either PC Companion or udpate Service

Do you have a protective case or film that it's blocking the proximity sensor?

go to settings -> about phone and check the BUILD NUMBER

this is the latest update and it's not available in all markets, so if you want to manually install it, follow the link bellow, it could void your warranty, but you can always flashback/reinstall your current version

Hi build nmber is 2.1.1.A.0.6

Is there a way of checking the proximity sensor. It has no protective fim etc on it.

Yes, you can. On the lockscreen (do NOT unlock it) press the following sequence

home -> back -> back ->home -> back -> home -> home -> back

Proximity switch looks to be always on. Is there anything I can do about this?

Is it that I need a new digitizer?

the proximity sensor should be on, that's a good thing, that's what locks the screen when you put the phone close to your face. just either repair your phone with Update Service or manually update to the latest version, that way you can narrow down if its a software issue or hardware related.

OK trying the re-load now, I guess the extra info is that the display blacks out just after I start the call and while the call runs OK I cannot get it to respond to any key.

Anyway trying the download.

OK tried update, and still the same. Call starts and display flashes then goes blank and no more control.

ok, that was fast, you have 2 options

1) manually flash the other android version and see if this solves the issue if not then

2) send it to Sony Ericsson repair center

and you are certain that there isn't anything covering the proximity sensor? do you know where its located?

Thanks you are a star. gave it a clean and it works now. In test mode you can see it moving from off to on now. I gave it a good clean with a lens cleaning cloth as just rubbing it made no difference.

that makes me look like a right muppet. But the phone works now
