I live in the UK and have an Xperia Ray. It is an ST18i - but there is also an ST18a. It seems I could use either here. The difference is the operating bands. You can find this in the white paper:

http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/997/193/1308295710/ray_WP_1.pdf

More information on the various bands throughout the world is here:

http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3

Hello there,

When I checked some various vendors (not all) that are selling Xperia...some of them have Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray and others have Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (ST18i), is there a difference between these ST18i and plain Xperia Ray? Is ST180i an older version of the current Xperia Ray phone or what?

Xperia ray is the commercial/official name of the phone. The model number however is ST18.

In other words - it's the same.
