I have precisely the same problem, although I've been using the apple earbuds that came with every iPhone 6.

Also, my phone is the xa1 ultra, which I bought brand new roughly a year ago. Never had an issue (mic and buttons dont work but that was to be expected from apple earphones on androids). Couple of days ago, this issue started. Exactly the same "not supported" message, stating I should contact Sony online support. I've reset the phone to factory settings, having to reinstall over 20gbs on apps, mainly. Before that, I've switched off and on, obviously, which didn't work, also. I love the quality of sound of the apple earphones, regardless of non-functioning buttons and mic. I'd hate to have to spend money replacing them, really. As a previous user wrote, I've been with Sony for many many years, since the Sony Ericsson times. I've had sony's for over 15 years now (I had the t68i, the first with a camera). If I have to start having issues, there's plenty of competitors in the market that produce phones without all the known issues that Sony has had of late in its many phone models.

Can anyone from tech support give an idea or make an update that can sort this issue? Clearly, there's a lot of people with this problem, with different models as well as many other problems, I can see... If you go to the Samsung, Apple, one+, huawey, ztc, etc, etc, etc, you don't see these many complaints. Either you go cheaper and you understand these issues or, if you want to keep the Sony prices and brand association, fix this. The Sony mobile of late, unfortunately, is nowhere near the quality that Sony video, audio and games clearly show. For the first time, I'm really regretting having bought this piece of junk... It looks that you are now building phones to last 6 months, tops. After that, it's problem after problem.... I'm only writing about the earphone jack because its the latest and most annoying. Because 6 months after I bought this piece of crap (for almost 400 euros, what a waste of money ..) the touchscreen started malfunctioning. Even today, sometimes, completely randomly, it's like a ghost starts touching my screen, pulling the drop down menu whenever it feels like it.

In this case pelase try another headset if possible; if not please try running a firmware repair:

Please note that performing these steps will delete all user data except for your media files (photos, music and video).

If your handset is able to be powered on and unlocked you can follow the below steps to back-up your personal data prior to running the repair.

Backing up your handset

It take only basic gadget skills to figure out that sony make this more difficult than nessesarly. There are standard spesifications to follow to make a headset, and no reason for this to change during the last 30 years. The only new standard (as far as I know) is the 4-poled mini jack supporting a mic, and the button function for answering calls.
If sony should claim this is for protecting the phone, the phone could easilly run a test when the handsfree is pluged in (99% of all handsfree should pass a test like that).
My second Sony in a row with unbelivable errors, Good bye Sony, I'll find another brand!
I didn't plug any headset but "headset is not supported" pop ups. I tried to clear data and cache, force stop, and restart but it pop ups again. It's weird because i didn't plug any headset. Is there any explanation about this?

Hi,

I have a Xperia Z1 Compact.

A couple of weeks back it came back from the service center where my power button got replaced. Of course it got a check up and an update to the latest softare (14.6.A.0.368)

A couple of days after it was back, I started getting constant notifications from Smartconnect that a headset was being connected (as in... it seemed to thing I was plugging a headset every second for minutes)

Every so often the cycle was interrupted by a system notification (or at least that's what it looks like) telling me the headset was not supported.

I did clear the data of Smartconnect, I reset it to factory settings, I re-updated it, up to three times, nothing seemed to help...

So I ended up disabling Smartconnect, and the Smartconnect notifications have stopped. But the system notifications keep on occuring, especially when I am using some kind of media (a YouTube film gets interrupted everyother second, the camera as well, and most interesting, I have a Sony bluetooth headset SBH20, that works like a charm, but that also gets disconnected upon apparition of the notification, since those notifications seem to overrule everything)

Since the problem occurred just after the phone's software was reset, is it likely that resetting it again will help?

This notification is seriously frustrating me!!!

I have done everything that I can find online to fix this issue but it continues to taunt me every single minute.

All basic features on the phone take 5x the time it should take. Due to the notification popping up every 30 seconds!!!

Surely there is something that will fix my phone!!!

Sony z1

Yesterday evening I have reset my Z1 Compact to factory setting. Less than two hours after that, there it went again, Smartconnect seems to think I have nothing better to do than plugging, and unpluggung, and replugging, etc... a headset, faster that it takes to read it...

Today I have been in touch with the Chat Support of Sony NL about that issue.

I seems that in Safe Mode, the Notification does not appear (though it comes in waves, so I might just have been lucky)

that would point to that problem being caused by an app. Thing is, I wouldn't know which one! I really do not have that many apps, and most of them come from rather known developpers...
I mean, facebook, twitter, pinterest, the official apps of my banks, of the national train company... I have very little apps that are not "official" apps of from a worldwide know developper...

Is there any know issue/link with a specific app?
