Xperia M5 supports USB Host so you can connect for example a USB drive using a OTG-cable.

It's however not detected automatically when you connect a USB-device. After connecting a device you need to go to Settings -> Xperia Connectivity -> USB Connectivity -> Detect USB device.

I have sony xperia z5 compact. I bought it on 10th june 2016. The seller tried his usb otg and it worked perfectly in my z5. I upraded it to marshmallow on 12th june 2016. Now I try to use my own usb otg and it can't connect. it states that " a security policy restricts the use of USB storage"

Finally my Xperia M5 ca read otg,thank U Sony Xperia support.
but now I still find 1 more problem in using otg with my M5
I still can not find the way to transfer data to or from otg.
Can U help me please...

FileKommander (the file manager bundled in my M5) will list the found file systems at the bottom of the main screen. YMMV as to the name and number of file systems on your USB media, as these will depend on its formatting. It is also possible that there are no file systems readable by Android on it. If so, you might want to consider installing Total Commander from the Google Play Store, which has extra plugins to enable NTFS and HFS.

Last but not least, USB stick file systems are often subtly damaged (by being plugged out without unmounting). Before you blame the phone, make sure that the USB stick will read across different computers, and that the test function of the computer does not want to repair or format it...

You can connect to usb otg.

1. Open "Developers options"

2. Go to "Debugging"

3. Thick to "USB debugging" for Enable

4. Restart your phone

5. Connect OTG on your device

How to open "Developers options"

1. Go to "About phone"

2. Fast Thick on "Build number" 7 times

3. You can see that.
