Should of bought an Android TV box For £50 that way I can add any app I want, not just the pre programmed apps. If you try to download an App all you gat is , this message... "you can not download apps onto this device" Whats the point of being an Android Tv?? Even though I have added more storage I get same message, This is not what Android is about, Come on Sony sort this out a simple software update should sort this....

You should have messed up something on your TV. You can definitely download anything from play store . Btw how did you add memory to it? Maybe it is that one the problem.

Sorry, I should of been clearer, not memory added more storage usb drive. And as for apps it only seems Apps from google play store on the TV can be added. Although I have got an old Android tv box and I can put any app on there I wish. You can not add any app from google play store on to the tv like you can a Android tv box, It seems (TV) to be very controlled and limited.

Android tv is the same on any device. You may have different box that does not have android tv but android . The app that you can download from the play store must have been declared compatible with a tv that is quite different from a smartphone (quite larger no touch dpad command) nonetheless you can set the tv security setting to accept unknown package and install an .apk from whatever place you like. Probably it won't work fine

If you change the security settings you can sideload apps eg from Usb. You need an app like TV file explorer to install them (double click using the middle button on the remote) and also a launcher app as the sideloaded apps probably won't appear in the app view as they're not set for TV usage

Hi Flodyboy,

Not all of the apps available on Play Store in general are downloadable on the TV. Bearing in mind that the versions of apps available for download for TVs aren't the same as the ones for phones so they may be limited.

Also, the TV itself won't allow you to download apps from the browser, whether they're in APK format or just normal apps.
